Ashley Adkins has been to every ModSocial since January with the exception of one. It's no surprise we named her our first Mod Ambassador. Her exuberance, her passion, her energy, is wonderful to be around and I am so thankful to benefit from all of those things. Moreover, I am thankful for her support. Outside of me and Mod, Ashley is a growing powerhouse in the fashion world. She has launched her own business(es), she's a seamstress, she's an artist, and she's making her way by her own means. With that, I am also thankful for her inspiration.
These are her stories...
WHAT ARE A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT NASHVILLE?
The opportunities and new ideas blooming here every day are what has kept me close to this city. I have no trouble finding more art, style, craft shows, and most importantly groups of people who have come together to celebrate things that they believe in. Mod is a perfect example of that!
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF PROFESSIONAL OR PERSONAL ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN BY SOMEONE ELSE?
The best piece of advice I've received is that there is absolutely no harm in changing course to try another path. Also, to not be afraid of experimenting: that is how we truly learn our strengths & weaknesses.
HOW HAS MENTORSHIP IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?
Some strong female entrepreneurs have played a huge part mentoring me over the past few years. Hearing about their small business experiences has taught me about being consistent with goals, wise with money and most importantly to show gratitude towards the hard-working people who help you along the way.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT?
Recently I have become part of a brilliant clothing design team and I am really looking forward to pushing my limits with this opportunity as a seamstress. In the meantime, I plan to teach more classes and work on my ability to approach a room of total strangers with confidence, much like Mod. So far working with this group has helped me exponentially, I love it!
HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN A WORK/LIFE BALANCE?
I create many to-do lists on a daily basis and also make time for nature, as hiking helps me get out of my head. This neutral time is absolutely necessary for me to realize what my priorities are and figure out a good starting point for how to tackle them.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE CHALLENGING WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE?
Being able to speak up and make known what their needs are. This is a daily struggle, I find myself not doing it enough in work and personal time.
