Eve McClure: Mod Women In Business

Eve McClure of Women's Wealth Strategies led the October Mod Networking group in a daring exploration  to define and improve our personal relationships with money.  She opened up to us about her past during the meeting and shared a wonderful hand out--that you should download!--to support building our financial confidence: 10 Things to Start Doing Tomorrow (Your Future Self Will Thank You). Here we continue getting to know this amazing woman and what she's into today.

WHAT ARE A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT NASHVILLE?

I have called Nashville home, well, let’s just say quite a long time. I absolutely love the soul of the place – it’s where I feel the most authentic. Other things in no particular order: four beautiful, distinct seasons; Ryman Auditorium; Radnor Lake’s Garnier Ridge; Loveless Cafe; and beautiful southern hospitality.

HOW HAS MENTORSHIP IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?

I'm inspired by brave women and believe wholeheartedly in the power of one woman organically reaching out to help another. That belief was the genesis for Women’s Wealth Strategies. Never be too shy to ask for help, I have learned so much from gracious and generous mentors. We function better when we work collaboratively.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT (EITHER PROFESSIONALLY OR PERSONALLY)?

For women, life comes in seasons. I am in a delightful season in my life. I have the freedom and the shameless audacity to pursue my passions, travel extensively, and say “yes” as often as I can (unless I have a compelling reason to say “no”). I am saying “yes” a lot and am having the time of my life.

HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN A WORK/LIFE BALANCE?

The notion of work/life balance is so incredibly personal. What works and feels like balance for me may not resonate with you at all. So give yourself permission to do it your own way. I learned very early on what was important to me and prioritized around that. I was a busy mom raising 4 busy children and happened to run a business. Establishing and maintaining boundaries is essential. Recharging is vitally important.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE CHALLENGING WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE?

I have always worked in traditionally male dominated fields. For me, I had to figure out how to eliminate barriers to participation. When you identify what you’re good at and what resonates with you, it is imperative that you work like hell to get a seat at the table. You can’t be part of the conversation if you have no access.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GET OUT OF BED IN THE MORNING?

Never underestimate the power of a delicious cup of black coffee. Heaven help the fool who comes between me and my coffee.
