Monchiere’ Holmes-Jones: Mod Women in Business Q&A

We are so excited to welcome Monchiere' Homes-Jones to our ModSocial next month to discuss personal branding. Mochiere' has a great history in marketing and branding and is extremely passionate about the field. She loves helping businesses grow and making an impact on her community, so it's no surprise we thought she would be a great fit to speak to Mod members. In preparation for her event next month, here's a deep dive into her personal and professional life.

How long have you been in Nashville?

I've lived here five years.

If you didn’t grow up here, what brought you to Nashville?

We relocated here with my husband's job of 18+ years. He's unlike me in the fact that I love variety in my work. That's why the dynamic work of marketing and branding come so easy for me.

What are a few of your favorite things about Nashville?

I love love love the parks in Nashville from Radnor to Shelby, Hot Chicken Crepes from Red Bicycle, and the entrepreneurial culture of the city.

What tips can you offer about successfully advancing your career?

Be sure to network internally in your company, get to know everyone from the janitor to head of IT.

What is the best piece of professional or personal advice you've been given by someone else?

Invest as much money into yourself monthly as your car note. Cars depreciate and you pay that bill. So, pay yourself for more appreciation.

How has mentorship impacted your life?

Mentorship has been the lifeline for my business. I've been able to call on old bosses and mentor referrals to help scale my business. Dig up the business cards and send them a handwritten note telling them about you and checking on them.

What are you looking forward to next?

I'm looking forward to traveling to Montreal, Quebec in October for a unconference about a new venture I'm launching 2017!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?

Finally walking away from corporate world to launch MOJO Marketing + PR, LLC almost 4 1/2 years ago. I had the itched 2 years earlier but was too scared to leave the comforts of a salary, but when I did I've never looked back - even on the hard days.

What are three things we wouldn’t guess to be true about you?

Whew! Good question. As a lover of dogs I was once very terrified of dogs until my early 20s. I literally prayed the fear away. Most of my early childhood I attended Parochial school where I learn a forgotten language--LATIN--and since then I have forgotten it! I want to be the first woman to win the Bass Fisherman Tournament #SouthernWoman.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

My husband and I enjoy being weekend road warriors finding old towns with great antiques.

What do you think is the biggest issue challenging women in the workplace?

I believe the most challenging issue is the lack of value of women's innovation in the workplace.

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?

Living my purpose.

What do you think makes a strong leader?

A leader must see the vision of the organization and/or project from A to Z.
