Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mod have a membership fee?
Mod has a $10.00 annual membership fee. Memberships help support the maintenance of our organization and help us impact our community. The purpose of a Membership fee help us to increase participation; allow our members to get more out of Mod, while at the same time allowing us to keep the lights on. This small membership cost will go to operations of Mod, while those who contribute their time will be based on being a volunteer.
If you are new to Mod, please attend your first ModSoical without becoming a member to learn more about who we are and what we do. Afterwards, if you would like to join Mod and attend future ModSocials, we would ask you to become a member.
How often do you meet?
We meet once a month for ModSocials, informal meetings intending to encourage conversation and offer growth through education. We also meet twice a year for ModBashes, which give us a chance to celebrate in a less formal setting. You can find more info about our events on Eventbrite.
Where do you meet?
We always have our monthly ModSocials at Refinery Nashville, an awesome small business resource space in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood. We especially love Refinery Nashville because they are making an active push for more women members. As for our ModBashes, we host these parties at a variety of Nashville locations.
What is the agenda for a typical ModSocial?
We recommend arriving promptly at 6:00pm for ModSocials (if it’s impossible to arrive at 6:00pm, don’t sweat–just join in on whatever part of the evening we’re involved in). Each event begins with approximately 15 minutes of open conversation. We then circle up with the full group for introductions. After that, we alter each month between discussing, in small groups, a given topic or featuring a speaker who introduces a workshop. For example, in January of 2016 we talked about risk-taking in our small groups. In February, Nicole Delger discussed ways we could encourage risk-taking in our lives and then had us workshop her recommended process. After that, we return to the big group to wrap up and share announcements. Then, we close with more open conversation.
What does Mod Stand for?
Mod stands for Modernist, Modification and Modulation. We have Modern beliefs about equality. We strive to Modify the existing working environments for most Nashville women. And Mod (and confidence building that result from it) is the undercurrent of our lives, is a Modulation.
Is Mod only for women?
Nope! Our goal is to provide a welcoming, supportive, inspiring environment for women, those who identify as women and those who do not identify with the gender binary. We do not exclude anyone (including men) from our events, we simply focus primarily on supporting women as our means towards creating equality.
